Lake Neusiedl
The largest steppe lake in Central Europe, shared between Burgenland in Austria and Hungary, where it is called Lake Fertő. It is very shallow and fringed by reed beds, which draw migrating birds, windsurfers and cyclists, and it is part of a UNESCO World Heritage landscape.

Esterházy Palace
A palace in Eisenstadt, capital of Burgenland, with origins in the late 13th century. The Hungarian Esterházy family owned it from 1622, and Joseph Haydn worked here as court composer for decades in the great Haydn Hall.

A late medieval castle above the village of Forchtenstein in northern Burgenland, 511 metres above sea level. It was never captured, and it holds the Esterházy treasury with weapons, armour and art.
