-
Rietveld Schröder House
A small house on the edge of Utrecht, built in 1924 by the architect Gerrit Rietveld for Truus Schröder and her children. Its sliding walls and primary colours made it a landmark of the De Stijl movement, and it is now a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Schokland
A former island in the Zuiderzee, an elongated strip of peat land that stopped being an island when the Noordoostpolder was reclaimed in 1942. It is now a slightly raised ridge in farmland and a heritage site.
-
Van Nelle Factory
A former tea, coffee and tobacco factory on the Schie in Rotterdam, built between 1925 and 1931 to a design by Brinkman and Van der Vlugt. Its glass curtain walls make it a leading example of modernist and functionalist architecture, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A steam pumping station near Lemmer in Friesland, opened in 1920 and named after its chief engineer. It is the largest steam powered pumping station still in operation anywhere, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

One of the largest national parks in the Netherlands and one of the last extensive areas of freshwater tidal wetland in northwestern Europe. A network of rivers and creeks winds between islands of willow and reed.
-
IJsselmeer
A large freshwater lake in the central Netherlands, bordered by North Holland, Flevoland and Friesland. It was a sea inlet until the Afsluitdijk closed it off in 1932, and it is now a popular place for sailing and a home to many water birds.
-
Oostvaardersplassen
A nature reserve in Flevoland of about 56 square kilometres, managed by Staatsbosbeheer. It is an experiment in rewilding on a publicly owned polder created from the sea, and is known for its large grazing herds and birdlife.
-
Afsluitdijk
A dam and causeway about 32 kilometres long, built between 1927 and 1932 from Den Oever in North Holland to Friesland. It closed off the old Zuiderzee from the North Sea and created the freshwater IJsselmeer.
